HAILONG and UPP are the two most popular budget 48V e-bike battery brands on Amazon. One we recommend. One we don't. Here's why.

When you're shopping for a 48V e-bike battery on Amazon, two brands dominate the listings: H HAILONG and Unit Pack Power (UPP). They look similar, they're priced similarly, and they both claim similar capacities and BMS ratings. But behind the listings, these two brands have very different safety records.

We need to be direct: WattCycle does NOT recommend UPP batteries as of 2026. The brand has been the subject of multiple CPSC recalls and is currently involved in active class-action litigation related to battery fires. We recommend HAILONG instead. Here's the full breakdown.

The Verdict

The HAILONG 48V 15Ah battery is our recommended 48V pack for 2026. It offers a quality 30A BMS, key lock, LED state-of-charge display, and reliable 500-800 cycle lifespan. At $249-329, it's priced competitively for a name-brand battery.

We do not recommend UPP batteries due to ongoing safety litigation. The $50 savings over HAILONG is not worth the fire risk, the warranty issues, or the unknown cell quality. There are also reports of UPP packs shipping with recycled laptop cells instead of new 18650s — a dangerous corner-cutting practice that no reputable battery brand engages in.

If you're considering a different budget battery brand, apply this test: search '[brand name] battery fire' and '[brand name] recall' before buying. If you find documented safety incidents, look elsewhere. A $50 savings on a lithium-ion battery is never worth your home or your safety.

Bottom line: get the HAILONG. It's the safest, best-reviewed 48V pack at a fair price, and it pairs perfectly with every motor kit in our guides.
