Both are genuine BAFANG. One is a mid-drive, one is a hub motor. Here's how to choose between them for your conversion.

BAFANG makes both mid-drive motors (BBS02, BBSHD) and hub motors (G020, G330). Choosing between a BAFANG mid-drive and a BAFANG hub motor isn't just about motor location — it's about what kind of riding experience you want, how much you want to spend, and how much installation effort you're willing to put in.

This comparison puts the BBS02 750W mid-drive head-to-head against the G020 500W front hub motor. Both are excellent motors, but they optimize for very different things.

The Verdict

The BBS02 is the better motor in absolute terms — more power, better climbing, deeper ecosystem, fully programmable. But the G020 is the right choice for riders who want easy installation and don't need maximum performance.

Choose BBS02 if you: face real hills, want to customize firmware, value the deepest community support, or need more than 500W of power.

Choose G020 if you: ride on flat terrain, are doing your first conversion, want a 30-minute install, have a 20" folding bike, or are on a tighter budget.

For most commuters on flat terrain, the G020 is genuinely the better choice — it's $150 cheaper, installs in a quarter of the time, and never touches your drivetrain. The BBS02 only wins when you introduce hills, cargo, or customization needs.
